Nature
Off the grid
PAN Treetop Cabins offers an award-winning eco-retreat high in the canopy of Norway’s Finnskogen forest. Guests stay in modern A-frame treehouses elevated on stilts, designed to blend seamlessly with nature and leave minimal trace. Each cabin features panoramic windows, sustainable Scandi furnishings, and off-grid energy-efficient design that maximizes natural light and passive heating. Founded to celebrate the local Forest Finn heritage (the cabins are named after Pan, the forest god), the project’s vision is to reconnect people with the wilderness. The history of Finnskogen infuses the experience – from trails through mystical pine woods once settled by Finnish immigrants, to the possibility of spotting elk, lynx or capercaillie nearby. Sustainability is at PAN’s core: the treehouses are anchored without harming trees, use local materials, and can be removed without a trace. The resort is Green Key certified and a member of the Ærli sustainable tourism network. Operations follow the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Norway’s Nature Diversity Act, and guests are encouraged to travel thoughtfully (longer stays, low-impact activities). PAN works with local craftsmen and even provides work training for marginalized groups, supporting the rural community. Activities include canoeing, guided wildlife safaris, cycling and Nordic foraging. After outdoor adventures, guests unwind by the fire or soak in a secluded wood-fired hot tub under the stars. Meals showcase traditional local foods – perhaps moose stew or berry pancakes – often delivered to your cabin or enjoyed at a charming farm café nearby that partners with PAN. With no traffic or Wi-Fi to distract, PAN Treetop Cabins promises tranquility, inspiration, and a deep nature connection. Families, couples and friends alike leave feeling “the quiet of the forest” and the magic of off-grid living in style.
